AudiA3 2.0 TDI (2003) remapped. BMW 120d (E87). BMW 325d M Sport remapped (E91). At present I have no plans to replace timing chain. At 100,000+ miles or if and when I heard a rattle, I might consider it. Audi SQ5 2015 Stealth • Engine CGQB 3.0TDi • Mythos Black • Black Styling Pack • Black Leather Interior • Flat-Bottom

Everytime you use the engine, the timing chain will be used. It connects the crankshaft to the camshaft. The metal links in the chain move on the tooth sprockets on the end of the crankshaft and crankshaft so that they rotate together. The timing chain normally needs to be replaced between 40,000 and 100,000 miles unless there is a problem.

1 Verify condition by observing engine sound during cold start. 2. If the rattling noise comes from the area of the timing chains (back of the engine) for 1-3 seconds after the first start of the day, replace both upper chain tensioners of bank 1 and bank 2 with the optimized chain tensioners.
. #2. My 2005 3.0 Tdi SE quattro - engine type BMK does not have a cambelt, but at 70K miles it needed its diesel timing belt an tensioner changing, apparently this is not a cam belt (as the car has a chain for that). Best
